Responsibilities

The Clinical Laboratory Scientist is responsible for technical and staff supervision, administrative management of all sections and assuring proficiency of staff, accurate instrument operation, quality control, quality assurance, compliance and proficiency testing. 

 

Essential Functions

  • Performs testing in all departments of the Laboratory. Many of these tests are complex, involving numerous skills and techniques, and require the use of professional judgment.
  • Professional application of the principles, theories, and techniques in scientific testing, which are used to produce consistently reliable test results, that aid the physician in the diagnosis and treatment of our patients.
  • Recognizes the interdependence of tests and the condition that affect test results in order to produce and report accurate results.
  • Records and analyzes quality control data and recognizes trends and abnormalities in quality control data and does not report patient results unless quality control data are within acceptable parameters. Develops a plan of action to resolve abnormalities that may be uncovered by the QA process and provides follow-up to the department Director.
  • Assures that Quality Assurance programs are properly followed
  • Documents daily review of tests performed.
  • Helps set up instruments and computers and performs updates.
  • Performs special projects as requested by the Supervisor.
  • Cross trains/floats/provides coverage outside of normal duty area
  • Attends unit & departments meetings.
  • Participates in unit QA program.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Follows HCCA rules, policies, procedures, applicable laws, and standards
  • Carries out the mission, vision, and values of HCCA

 

 

Qualifications

Experience, Education & Competency Requirements

 

  • Baccalaureate degree in the clinical laboratory scientist field.
  • California State licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist
  • Min One (1) years of experience as a CLS, preferred.
  • Demonstrates professional and independent judgment in daily work assignments
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to make decisions using discretion and independent judgment.
  • Able to prioritize, multi-task and manage time to meet deadlines and time constraints.
  • Must work well with all levels of persons and personalities.
