A CRNA cares for a patient before, during and after a medical procedure or surgery by performing a patient assessment, preparing the patient for anesthesia, administering and maintaining the anesthesia to ensure proper sedation and pain management, overseeing patient recovery from anesthesia and caring for the patient's immediate post-operative needs. Works in collaboration with anesthesiologists, surgeons and other physicians and medical professionals to deliver anesthesia for medical and surgical procedures.

Essential Functions

  • Reviews medical history, evaluates patients, writes orders and determines methods of anesthesia.
  • Accurately measure and monitors the level the speed at which anesthesia is administered.
  • Monitors patient’s vital signs to ensure safety.
  • Informs the surgeon if a patient becomes unstable
  • Attends to the patient’s needs before, during after surgery
  • Oversees patient’s recovery from anesthesia.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Follows HCCA rules, policies, procedures, applicable laws, and standards.
  • Carries out the mission, vision, and values of HCCA


Experience, Education & Competency Requirements, please refer to Nursing scope for certification requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent level of education, preferred
  • Master’s degree or equivalent level of education, preferred
  • Current California Registered Nurse License
  • Current Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA)
  • One (1) year of experience in an Acute care setting, such as an emergency room or critical care unit, and complete additional training in a hospital setting.
  • Three (3) to Five (5) years’ experience in the Operating Room
  • Please refer to the Nursing Scope for ACLS, CPR, PALS, NRP, and other education certifications and/or licensure requirements.
  • Able to prioritize, multi-task and manage time to meet deadlines and time constraints
  • Ability to communicate in English Language.
  • Excellent critical thinking skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must work well with all levels of persons and personalities. 


Nursing Services Scope:


Operating Room

  • Current ACLS
  • Current CPR
  • Current PALS, preferred
  • Malignant Hyperthermia, preferred
  • Moderate Sedation, preferred
